I Shot Hong Kong

I went to the press conference for the announcement of the short list for I Shot Hong Kong Festival. As usual I discover that I am in the presence of trendy celebrities without knowing who on earth they are. For some reason in Hong Kong celebrities have a very short time as a celebrity and I suspect that by the time I get to know them, their time is up.

I of course appear to have remained a celebrity for eighteen years. My name crops up in articles here and there and I find it odd that I am perhaps more written about than read. As the dismal hit rate of my blog here will testify.

Anyway, I get yet another little trip down the red carpet on July the First and I shall cringe as I see all the graininess of my video, but it'll be interesting to see the reaction of what could be a hostile audience consisting of all the rivals! We will politely support each other but secretly grin at the slightest lapse of production and/or of entertainment values.

The weakness of short films is always the narrative. You will find plenty of people who can work the post production software packages, or swing a nifty piece of camera and catch a clever shot, but the concept and story are the hard things and tend to be the product of sitting down with a piece of paper and writing rather than hitting the locations with a crew.

That said, I've no idea whether I stand the slightest chance of the number one spot. As far as I can see, all the films are so different it is hard to compare them. Let us hope that the cast have lots of friends with friends who will attend the showing and vote so I can run off with a MacBook, or whatever the prize is.
