Franky and Johnson

I was cleaning up my office and came across an old script of mine. i had forgotten all about it. Mostly, when I come across scripts I've forgotten, I discover that there is a good reason for me to forget them. This one though was rather good. And I cannot imagine why it was turned down as a project. Timing, as they say, is everything.

I thought perhaps I should try put this on at the local Fringe Theatre, since it is essentially a two hander about Dr Samuel Johnson and his Servant/Slave, Francis Barber. But I live in Hong Kong and casting such an English subject matter would be difficult and finding an audience who knew who the two eighteenth century characters were, impossible.

Maybe I should re-submit it to the BBC or some such British production house but the moment has passed and the script lies as testimony to a moment when I was writing well and could have knocked out more of the same if given the slightest hint of interest.

As it is I moved on and am now writing very different material with a very different cast and audience in mind.  Still I think it is a shame the project has to be shelved and I shall give it a decent burial here.

If by any chance you do feel like producing it in some form, just drop me a line and a suitable deal can be made. And if your offer is exciting enough, maybe I will get back into the world of Dr Johnson. And if your offer is merely to use it as a piece for a school play, then so be it.
